If you havent gotten it already, and if you don't hear music inthe background, then
go to
BEATNIK
and download the FREE plug-in. This will allow
you to hear the background music, AND listen to the WAV files I've got here
without downloading them. Trust me. It will be worth it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Q
My ex-mother-in-law always insisted that her bed be placed so that she
could sleep with her head to the north. Do you know the origin of
this?
A
In the old days, people claimed that a person who slept this way was
safe from lightning.
Q
How many moons does Neptune have?
A
It has eight: Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus,
Triton, and Nereid.
Q
Can you tell me how the expression "green thumb" originated?
A
According to James Underwood Crockett, it comes from the fact
that algae growing on the outside of earthenware pots will stain a
person's thumb (and fingers) if he or she handles enough pots. Hence, the
person who was always working with flowerpots had a green thumb.
Another theory is that it originated during the reign of the first Edward of
Saxon, England. King Edward was fond of green peas and kept half a
dozen serfs shelling them during the season. The serf who had the
greenest thumb won a prize.
Q
Is there a rhyme about the color of the Moon and how this color can
foretell the weather?
A
There are several, but the one most familiar to us is Pale Moon doth
rain, red Moon doth blow, white Moon doth neither rain nor
snow.
Q
Why is the sky blue?
A
As the white light of the Sun shines through Earth's
atmosphere, it is intercepted and scattered by minute particles of
matter (or dust) and molecules of air. The blue wavelengths in the
spectrum are the shortest, are more easily intercepted, and get scattered
the most. As they bounce off the air particles, they become visible,
making the sky appear blue. At sunset or sunrise, when the sunlight has to
penetrate more layers of the atmosphere, the longer yellow and red
wavelengths are more likely to be scattered and therefore made visible.
Outer space is black because it has no atmosphere.
Q
Where did the expression "raining cats and dogs" come from?
A
In mythology, the cat is believed to have great influence on the
weather. Witches that rode on storms were said to take the form of
cats. The dog is a signal of wind, and a dog was an attendant of Odin, the
storm king. So cats symbolize down-pouring rain, and dogs symbolize
strong gusts of wind.
Q
Can you explain what the rabbit and the hunting of eggs has to do
with Easter?
A
The eggs associated with Easter are fertility symbols and reflect
ancient spring renewal rites. Hunting for eggs is an old Western
European tradition that dates back to the fifteenth century. The rabbit is
another pagan fertility symbol. The rabbit was the escort to the Germanic
goddess Ostara, who gave her name to a holiday that fell at the time of
the vernal equinox, which then became Easter.
Q
I recall hearing some time ago about
a formula whereby you could tell the temperature by counting the
chirps of a cricket. Can you tell me what that formula is?
A
To determine the outside temperature in Fahrenheit, count the
number of times a cricket chirps in precisely 15 seconds and then
add 37. To get the temperature in Celsius, count the number of chirps in
25 seconds, divide by 3, and then add 4.

All About Me
(well, not ALL, but some about me)
One would think this would be the easy part, as, allegedly, guys are inclined to talk about themselves. Well, just let me say this about that. OK. Off we go. Born in 1962 in Duluth, Minnesota.

After I was born, I grew up. Now, 37, I work for the federal government as an Air Traffic Control Specialist. Yes, there is stress. No, it's not usually bad. No I don't have an ulcer, or nervous tic. I am currently living the life of a single man in this fine area of the world. Spending my free time fishing with my daughter, roller blading, playing racquetball, and frequently winging to Las Vegas.

Musical Taste
This is a touchy subject for me. The 80's and 90's are, for the most part, a musical wasteland. I prefer the "classics". Bob Dylan (my distant cousin), Neil Young, Old Springsteen, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Any group that had Clapton, Beatles, just about any 60's, British Invasion, Lou Reed.
If I had to pick 5 CD's to have with me on a deserted island, they would be:
Springsteen..Darkness on the Edge of Town
Pink Floyd..Wish You Were Here
Warren Zevon..A Quite Normal Life
Neil Young..Decade
Bob Marley and the Wailers...Legend
Pink Floyd..Animals
The Best Of Elvis Costello and the Attractions
Ray Conniff and his Singers..White Christmas
OK. OK. So thats more than 5. Actually I couldn't pick 5 and 8 wasn't easy. Face it, tastes change with moods. I think the above 8 would maybe suffice.
